Nicole D. Theriot confirmed as US Ambassador to Guyana

Washington D.C., July 28, 2023 – In a significant development for bilateral relations between the United States and Guyana, Nicole D. Theriot has been officially confirmed as the new Ambassador to Guyana by the U.S. Congress on July 27, 2023.

Initially nominated by President Joe Biden on September 7, 2022, during the previous Congress, Ms. Theriot’s confirmation process faced delays due to the November 2022 elections. However, displaying her qualifications and competence, she was once again nominated on January 3, 2023, receiving bipartisan support in Congress.

As the new U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, Ms. Theriot is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations and advancing mutual interests. Her experience and expertise in foreign affairs make her a well-suited candidate for this vital position.

Guyana, a South American nation with a growing economy and emerging regional influence, presents numerous opportunities for collaboration with the United States. Key areas of engagement between the two countries may include environmental conservation, energy security, and countering transnational crime.

During her Senate confirmation hearings, Ms. Theriot demonstrated a firm commitment to proudly champion U.S. values in ethnically, religiously diverse Guyana and “work with the government to continue responsibly leveraging the country’s newfound oil revenues to expand economic opportunities, develop reliable infrastructure, and improve and expand social services.”
