In light of recent events, Guyanese United strongly condemns the reprehensible comments made by the “Live in Guyana” Facebook group targeting Ms. Wanita Huburn. Such behavior is abhorrent and has no place in our society. We urge all individuals in Guyana, particularly prominent women, to distance themselves from the hateful rhetoric propagated by “Live in Guyana.” This includes figures such as Ms. Arya Ali, wife of the President of Guyana, Hon. Gail Texeira (Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance of Guyana), Hon. Pria Manichand (Minister of Education), Ms. Hon. Sonia Savitri Parag (Minister of the Public Service), Hon. Pauline Campbell-Sukhai (Minister of Amerindian Affairs), Hon. Oneidge Walrond (Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce), Hon. Vindhya Vasini Persaud (Minister of Human Services and Social Security), Ms. Annette Arjune (Founder of Guyana Marine Conservation Society), and others who hold influential positions in our community.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.” Let us not remain silent in the face of injustice and discrimination. It is incumbent upon us to speak out against hatred and intolerance wherever it may arise.
Guyanese United is committed to fostering a society built on respect, inclusivity, and compassion. We call upon all citizens to join us in standing up against bigotry and standing in solidarity with those who are targeted unjustly. Only by working together can we create a brighter and more equitable future for all.
