(5 April, 2014) – The Miss World Guyana (MWG) contestants Kelly-Ann Latchman and Jovan Wilson, selected to represent Region 7 – Cuyuni Mazaruni and Region 10 -Upper Demerara-Berbice, as Regional Beauty and Goodwill Ambassadors have withdrawn from participating. The MWG Committee takes this opportunity to thank both Ms. Latchman and Ms. Wilson for their participation and wish them well in their future endeavors.
The Miss World Guyana pageant, slated for Independence Day – May 26th, is a platform to enable personal and professional growth of contestants in addition to the promotion of community service, beauty, fitness and talent. Participation in the pageant affords young women the opportunity to raise awareness on issues and causes affecting their communities as they serve as Regional Beauty & Goodwill Ambassadors of our great nation.
About Miss World Guyana
The Miss World Guyana pageant commenced in May 1966 and crowned its first Title-holder, Umbilita Van Sluytman, who was also known as the Independence Queen and became Guyana’s first placement and semi-finalist in the Miss World 1966 pageant. The Miss World pageant is the first international pageant that Guyana achieved repeated successes in. As a result, Guyana is known for having one of the longest consecutive placements in the history of the Miss World pageant. On May 26th 2013, Natasha Martindale was awarded the franchise from Miss World Chairwoman & CEO, Julia Morley.
