It has been several months since the tragic crash of the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) Bell 412 helicopter, a devastating incident that claimed the lives of brave servicemen and shook our nation to its core. Yet, amidst the grief and mourning, questions linger unanswered, and concerns about the circumstances leading to the crash persist.

As citizens of Guyana, we owe it to the memory of those who lost their lives, as well as their grieving families, to seek transparency and accountability in the aftermath of this tragedy. The lack of updates or information regarding the progress of the investigation into the helicopter crash is deeply troubling and undermines public trust in the institutions responsible for ensuring the safety of our military personnel.

The families of the victims deserve closure and reassurance that every effort is being made to uncover the truth behind the incident. Furthermore, the citizens of Guyana have a right to know the findings of the investigation and any measures being taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Transparency is not only a matter of accountability but also essential for the effective functioning of our democracy. It is through transparency that trust between the government and the governed is built and maintained. By keeping the public informed about the progress of the investigation, the government demonstrates its commitment to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability.

Therefore, we call upon the government of Guyana to provide regular updates on the status of the investigation into the Bell 412 helicopter crash. We urge authorities to disclose any information relevant to the cause of the crash, the actions taken in response, and the steps being implemented to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Additionally, we encourage the government to engage with the families of the victims and involve them in the investigative process, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.

The tragic loss of life in the Bell 412 helicopter crash serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by our military personnel in the line of duty. It is incumbent upon us as a nation to honor their sacrifice by seeking truth, justice, and accountability.

In conclusion, transparency is not a choice but a fundamental obligation of governance. It is time for the government of Guyana to uphold this obligation and provide the transparency and accountability that the people rightfully deserve.

Sincerely,
Derek Singer
