Assessing the Actions of the DOGE and Measures to Maintain Global and US Citizens’ Confidence in the USA

In the wake of President Donald Trump’s inauguration, a series of executive orders led to unprecedented disruptions across multiple U.S. government agencies. These disruptions were reportedly initiated by individuals claiming to represent the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a newly established entity under President Trump’s administration, led by Elon Musk.

One of the most alarming actions taken by DOGE was the abrupt shutdown or operational halt of several government websites. This move deviated significantly from standard practices employed by successful private organizations, let alone the meticulously structured protocols of a globally trusted government like that of the United States.

A glaring example was the USAID and CFPB websites shutdown, which resulted in either a blank page or a “404 error” message. Such disruptions create a poor user experience, leading to frustration and eroding trust and confidence in these long-established agencies among users. This not only reflects negatively on the agency’s credibility but also the US Government institutions as a whole. In essence, such actions risk diverting users to alternative sources, including international competitors, which could undermine the U.S.’s strategic communication efforts.

In the corporate world, if a similar scenario occurred within a publicly traded organization—especially in sectors like finance—it would likely trigger an immediate loss of investor confidence, causing a sharp decline in stock value. The perception of instability and mismanagement could have far-reaching economic consequences.

To mitigate the damage and maintain global trust in U.S. institutions, a more effective approach is necessary. Instead of a complete shutdown, government agencies should employ transparent communication strategies. A simple notice informing users about ongoing changes would significantly reduce uncertainty. For instance, USAID could have displayed the following message:

“USAID is undergoing a review by the U.S. Government as we reposition our place and role to better serve our citizens.”

Such an approach preserves accessibility, ensures transparency, and upholds public confidence in government operations. As the DOGE team moves forward with its efficiency initiatives, it is imperative to adopt strategies that prioritize continuity, clear communication, and the stability expected from a government that serves as a model for nations worldwide.
