Over the past five days, from Monday, February 12, 2024, to today, Friday, February 16, 2024, as per the updates shared on “Team Mohamed’s” Facebook page, they have significantly impacted the lives of Guyanese citizens. Their initiatives include rebuilding the home of a single mother whose residence succumbed to fire on the West Coast Berbice, providing essential support to a father of two who lost both legs, enabling him to establish his own business in Vigilance, East Coast Demerara.
Additionally, they have constructed a house in Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, for residents fleeing conditions at the Guyana-Venezuela border in Region 1. Another commendable effort involves assisting a single mother of five in Central Amelia’s Ward Linden, who lost her husband to COVID-19 two years ago, in setting up a small business. Moreover, Team Mohamed funded the establishment of a bakery for visually impaired siblings in Blueberry Hill, Linden.
The Mohamed father and son duo seems to be on a mission to uplift those Guyanese seeking a hand up, not a handout, and those aspiring to achieve self-sufficiency. Their actions reflect a commitment to the adage, “Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime.”
As we witness these philanthropic endeavors, there arises a hopeful anticipation that other individuals and, particularly, the government of Guyana will channel the wealth generated from the oil industry to improve the wages of all civil servants. This improvement should be proportionate, bridging the gap between those in governance and public servants, aligning with standards observed in the ABC countries.
It is evident that Mr. Nazar Mohamed and his son Azruddin have set a commendable standard for philanthropy in Guyana, serving as a catalyst for others to follow suit.
