The Chinese Association in Guyana hosted a dinner in celebration of Spring Festival of the year of sheep on February 15, 2015. Chinese Ambassador to Guyana His Excellency Zhang Limin, Madame Mrs. Yvonne Hinds, wife of the Honorable Prime Minister of Guyana, Leader of the Alliance For Change Honorable Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan joined the Chinese community, representatives from Chinese companies in Guyana and local friends on this happy and auspicious occasion.
Ambassador Zhang extended New Year greetings to the local Chinese community. He said that China and Guyana enjoyed profound traditional friendship. The bilateral relations maintained sound and stable development especially since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The Chinese people actively integrated into the local society since their first arrival in Guyana over 160 years ago and have made important contributions to the economic and social development of Guyana. Ambassador Zhang expressed gratitude to the Guyanese government and people for their support to the local Chinese people. He fully affirmed the role the Chinese Association in Guyana has played in providing services to the local Chinese community and encouraged the Chinese people in Guyana to make further contribution to China-Guyana friendship.
Madame Mrs. Hinds wished the local Chinese people a happy and prosperous new year. She expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its assistance to Guyana and to the Chinese Embassy for its support to the Guyana Relief Council.
The Spring Festival Dinner is an annual event held by the Chinese community in Guyana in celebration of Chinese New Year. It is widely participated by the Chinese people and local friends every year and has served as an important bridge for enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of China and Guyana.
