Girl 18 is first 1967 road victim – News article from Guyana Graphic Saturday January 07, 1967

Eighteen-year old Jean Harris yesterday became Guyana’s first road fatality for 1967, when she was killed in an accident on the East Bank Public Road.

Injured in the crash, which occured shortly after 6 o’clock, were Daisy Harris, 40, William Harris, Pamela Harris, 15, and Trevor Wharton, 2, all of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme.

Injured in the crash, which occured shortly after 6 o’clock, were Daisy Harris, 40, William Harris, Pamela Harris, 15, and Trevor Wharton, 2, all of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme.

Reports said the girl suffered a broken neck when the car in which she was travelling skidded on the wet road, crashed into a bridge and over-turned.

The Harrises were among hundreds of persons returning to the city after having spent most of the day bidding farewell to relatives who were returning to Britain at the end a three-week Christmas vacation home.
