Investigation launched into sodomy allegations

The Ministry of Home Affairs says that it has launched an investigation and is awaiting the findings into the allegation of the sexual assault of a young boy by Police Ranks in downtown Georgetown.

The Ministry of Home Affairs says that it has launched an investigation and is awaiting the findings into the allegation of the sexual assault of a young boy by Police Ranks in downtown Georgetown.

The Ministry in a release tonight said “It is most alarming to note that in the wake of an ongoing allegation of sexual assault, yet to be determined, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) while it struggles to regain public confidence, the Organization finds itself further embattled due to this alleged despicable act”.

According to the Home Affairs Ministry, if proven guilty, such elements must be weeded out from the ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) since they  are  not worthy of wearing Police uniforms.

The 16-year-old alleged victim has accused three police officers of sodomizing him at a police outpost at Stabroek Market on Sunday last.

Today around midday the teen climbed to the roof of Stabroek News on Robb Street to protest his plight, but was brought down by authorities an hour later.

Reports said that the teen screamed at the large crowd of people who had gathered saying that he had been sexually assaulted by members of the Police Ranks.

The boy is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital undergoing an evaluation.
