According to the source, it was no accident or petty issues that stirred the shooting in the quiet community, but rather an angry relative of the now deceased Alfred Munroe, called “Guana Man” who died in a vigilante style murder in 2013.
The source told this media entity that a relative of Monroe decided to take matters into his own hands after hearing that the people accused of the 2013 murder were set free today (January 30, 2014).
“A few innocent persons may have ended up critical but the real intention was to kill the men that were responsible for the beating to death of Munroe back in 2013”, the source confirmed.
Randolph Samuel, called ‘Rudy’ (22), Aris Cecil (21), of Port Mourant; Richard Griffith, called ‘Buck Head’ (19), Michael Lewis, called ‘Mickey’ (31), Jafar Seeteram (18), and Khruhnaraj Jagdeo (47), all of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne were on trial for the murder of Munroe.
The 2013 murder
On April 9 2013 at Bound Yard, Port Mourant, the men named above were alleged to have beaten Munroe along with Annie Persaud called “Short Hair, 18, of Rose Hall, Corentyne, who they suspected of robbing a business nearby. The beating victims were tied up with rope and placed in the trunk of a car which subsequently drove away. The incident was reported to have occurred at around 7:30 pm on that day.
Further reports noted that as the beating was taking place passersby objected and urged the men to take the two badly beaten persons to the nearest police station, but the men carrying out the beating refused.
When police arrived on the scene and were told what had transpired they went in search of the car, which was intercepted at Williamsburg, Corentyne. They found Munroe and Persaud in the trunk of the vehicle tied with rope and with visible signs of injuries about their bodies including deep cuts.
Munroe and Persaud were taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where Munroe succumbed to his injuries while Persaud was treated and released.
Persaud is reported to have died on Sunday June 30 at Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
