Mrs. Phyllis Archer 73, wife of Vernon Archer died early this morning. Mrs. Archer sustained injuries in a boat explosion that claimed the life of her husband on March 10.
The Archers were traveling from Venezuela to Guyana when the boat exploded at around 8 am on March 10. They had left the city of Puerto Ordaz in Venezuela around 11 pm on the evening of March 10, 2019. Mrs. Archer sustained severe burns and was treated at the Mabaruma Hospital before being air-dashed to Georgetown Public Hospital where she died today. Her husband Vernon Archer died as a result of injuries he sustained in the same incident. Mr. Archer who was blind, is thought to have fallen overboard in the aftermath of the explosion along with an unknown number of individuals. His body was found several days after the incident and his remains were buried near the scene of the explosion on the shore, and later exhumed for an autopsy. He was subsequently buried in a cemetery nearby.
Mr. and Mrs. Archer who lived in Venezuela for decades were returning to Guyana after selling their holdings in Venezuela to resettle in their country of birth. Funeral arrangements are underway for Mrs. Archer and a memorial service is being planned for the Archers at a later date.
