Captain Gerald Gouveia is an aviator extraordinaire with in excess of thirty years of experience and thousands of flying hours in the jungles of Guyana, South America, and the Caribbean. He is an Airline Transport Rated Pilot.

He was awarded a Government of Guyana Scholarship to attend one of the world’s most Prestigious Aviation Universities: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA, where he completed his Aviation Education.

He continued his education in other fields at institutions such as the NTSB Academy in Washington DC, George Washington University in Virginia, USA, and the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies in the National Defense University, all in Washington, D.C.
He is a “Fellow” of the Center of Hemispheric Defense Studies in Washington DC.

His Studies embraced areas such as:
• National Defense and Security
• Political Science
• Tourism
• Aviation Security Management
• Aircraft Search & Rescue
• Aircraft Accident Investigation

His career had its genesis in the Guyana Defense Force, where he served for many years. He holds the military rank of Major and served as the Chief Pilot of the Army Air Corps.

Captain Gouveia founded his company, Roraima Airways (Named after Mount Roraima), along with his wife, Captain Debra Gouveia, who is also an experienced Airline Transport Rated Pilot. He is now the Chief Executive Officer of the Roraima Group, which comprises a Charter Airline, an International Travel Agency, Airline Ground Handling, Aviation Security, and Executive Lounge Service at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Two Hotels in Georgetown, and the Arrowpoint Nature Resort.

He is also one of the five owners of the Ogle Airport Inc. Captain Gouveia is an ardent Private Sector Activist and has risen to the highest level in the private sector where he served as the Chairman of the Private Sector Commission.

Over the last 16 years, he was elected by his peers in the private sector to serve in the leadership capacity of:
• Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG)-President
• The Guyana Association of Travel Agents (GATA)-President
• The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI)-President
• The Aircraft Owners Association of Guyana (AOAG)-Vice President
• The Caribbean Association of Travel Agents (CATA)-President
• Search & Rescue of AOAG-Director.

His service extends to the public sector and includes:
• Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA)
• Director of Central Housing & Planning Authority (CHPA)
• Member of the Traffic Advisory to the Commission of Police
• Director on the Gaming Commission
• Member of the National Competitive Council, chaired by H.E. the President
• Member of the Guyana Export Promotion Council
• Director of the CARNEGIE school of Home Economics
• Member of Law and Order Commission
• Member of the High-Level Policy Committee on Crime and Security in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
• He is a member of the Indigenous Peoples’ Commission
• Director on the Privatization Board in the Ministry of Finance
• Chairman – Prison Sentencing Management Board

Captain Gouveia was appointed by the Government of Barbados as the Honorary Consul of Barbados to Guyana, and he is the recipient of the prestigious National Award
“The Golden Arrow of Achievement” (A.A)

He holds a black belt in Karate and JUDO, is an ardent adventurer, and is also a mountain biking and power boating enthusiast.
